The Shazam iPhone music app is famous for its appearance in Apple’s early iPhone commercials.  It started as a gimmicky app that can “listen” to what song is playing and tell you who the artist is that is playing it.

How good are the app graphics? This grades the quality of the CGI graphics and animation of the games, music and video featured on the site..

The App features some nice animations for when it is “listening” to the music, but outside of that everything it does looks pretty bland and uninteresting.

Ok, how much fun can you have on this site? Does it offer iPhone games, competitions, interactive chat rooms, picture sharing or feature cool animations? We played then graded..
Shazam is not really about iPhone games. Rather, it tries to be a one-stop shop for music lovers for getting iTunes in their iPhones.  It doesn’t really work for that either.

What is the concept of this Iphone app? How original is it? How will it enhance the life of iPhone users?.
The core concept is strong, but the app only worked for us 3/10 times we tried.  It’s much easier to just listen to the lyrics and put them into Google, that worked 9/10 times.

Can you contact the site with queries? This grades the email support and telephone contacts available to users..
The app is growing quickly, and it seems the developers are having trouble keeping up with the volume of new users.  A few updates were released for the app, but new ones were promised weeks ago to fix some major bugs, and they still haven’t come.

Can we see a screenshot or preview of the Iphone app? If so, how many and how good is the screenshot quality?.
Surprisingly, for such an innovative app concept, they haven’t found a way to show how it works on the website.  This is disappointing, since the Apple ad managed to show it off pretty well.

What else can I do here? We gave extra points to sites with video, HD, multiplayer options, mobile, music makers and audio options..
Shazam is ambitious about its role as a music sharing service, but it is buggy and slow, and we grew tired of battling against the different multimedia options they presented.

Listening to other’s play is a great way to get started creating something yourself, but this app is more geared towards people who just want to win a bar argument by always “knowing that song”.

This is the area where Shazam had the most potential, to create a community of music lovers based on songs that were searched in a certain area, but sadly it is just not executed well enough to make an impact.
