The internet giant, AOL, comes out with a bevy of online iPhone apps.  Once upon a time, AOL was the king of the internet, can they keep their throne?

What is the concept of this Iphone app? How original is it? How will it enhance the life of iPhone users?.

Most of these apps represent some once great technologies that AOL pioneered, such as instant messaging.  Today, they are widespread, and many other companies provide these services even better than AOL does, often for free.

How useful is this app? Will it save me time shopping, cooking, travelling or anything else? We graded on functionality..

AOL falls victim to the temptation to offer “lite” versions of their apps for free and then charge users for the full featured versions.  No thanks.

There are definitely no “fun” apps here, even the iPhone travel apps and iPhone food apps look more enjoyable than AOL’s standard fare.

Since they are offering limited functionality versions of their software, the support AOL provides for these apps is very limited.  iPhone customers looking for solid support should go with a proper paid app.

The website has screenshots for each app, but they are not taken directly from the iPhone, and don’t look like they really represent what happens when you use the app.

What else can I do here? We gave extra points to sites with video, HD, multiplayer options, mobile, music makers and audio options..

The site has no multimedia tutorials whatsoever, and doesn’t get many points in this category because of it.

AOL used to be great innovators, but the massive company has grown tired and lazy over the years with their development programs.

The IM features available with other apps that use the IM protocol are so much better than AIM’s own messenger app it would be foolish to not use them.
